When the City of Clive looked at widening Meredith Drive, it held itself to uphold its own Post-Construction Stormwater Ordinance. Adding new impervious surface changed the discharge requirements on an existing and ill-functioning dry basin.
Converting the site to a stormwater wetland included rerouting an existing ditch, keeping existing berms, and modifying the outlet. Located in a prominent area, visible from a recreational trail (which doesn’t flood anymore) and the roadway, the site has tripled its storage, reduced the peak flow rate by 90%. Multiple partners and private property owners created this successful public benefit for the community and its downstream neighbors.
