The structure now called the Dupaco Voices Building, located in the Millwork District in downtown Dubuque, was built in 1924 for the largest manufacturer of wood windows and doors. After sitting vacant in a highly pedestrian area, Dupaco rehabbed the building. It meets multiple criteria for its Innovative Leadership category, including
Community Outreach with its members and the community over a thoughtful three year process
Vision in the way it applied conservation and placemaking in rehabilitating an historic building in the neighborhood where the company was founded. It has achieved LEED Platinum status.
Reinvestment of infill in an existing community that had seen decline.
Offers residents a variety of choices in transportation modes through its proximity to the city’s intermodal transportation center and residential neighborhoods, and by offering a transportation stipend to employees to use as they wish.
