The Taubman Block in Maquoketa met many criteria of the Mixed Use category by renovating an existing building with energy efficient windows and lighting fixtures as well as Energy STAR appliances and recycled paper countertops.
The building also demonstrates smart growth by focusing new development around walkable, mixed-use town centers with a balance of housing, jobs, and modes of transportation. Lastly, the use of Brownfield and other tax credits shows efficient use of tax dollars.
