Southeast Community College, located in West Burlington, had insufficient roof space to offset the majority of its buildings’ energy needs. However, it made enough space by adding solar carport canopies to meet most of the electrical needs for the Health Sciences building and two dormitories.
The college is saving money, locking its electricity costs for at least the next 20 years, reduce its carbon footprint, and maximize its parking lot space. The carport canopies are visually prominent and also give the benefit of covered parking.
