Our jurors created a Best of Show category for Steeple Square in Dubuque, for the historical restoration of a former church and school campus to serve its neighborhood through affordable housing, childcare, greenspace, and community rental space.

The mission to be a collaborative, inclusive hub for the community in a historically respectful manner has brought positive change to residents in a vulnerable neighborhood such as education, jobs and job training, and community cultural events.

The award winning restoration of the steeple and associated school and church kept hundreds of tons of building materials out of local landfills, which align with the City of Dubuque’s environmental sustainability initiatives.
