The annual meeting will be held in the Cornell Commons in the heart of campus. The day's events will include the 2007 Best Development Awards, Reports from Around the State, and panels and breakout sessions covering topics including urban sprawl, sustainability in development decisions, and local codes to enable smart growth. The meeting will conclude with a walking tour of historic Mount Vernon.
Keynote Address: Thomas D. Guzman
Director, Iowa Downtown Resource Center, Iowa Department of Economic Development
On Saturday, July 28 you have the opportunity to hear a nationally renowned expert talk about his experiences with making downtowns come alive.
Thom Guzman has been with the Iowa Department of Economic Development since January 1988. As Director of the Iowa Downtown Resource Center, he oversees all downtown development programs of the department, including its premier program, Main Street Iowa. Mr. Guzman represents all of the USA's State and Citywide Main Street coordinating programs on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Community Development Financial Institution, Loan Committee and their Diversity Committee. He is a graduate of Leadership Iowa and is past vice-chair of the Iowa Commission on Latino Affairs.
